New Team

So here is how it all shook out:

Right after I was hired to the new team, they fired my new boss (on March 13th) so I had a week were I had basically no hours while they figured out what to do with me. I worked some for Justin (my old boss) and did some online training.

The next week I went to Illinois and met Penny, the Peer Trainer. I like her a lot! She got me "up to speed" as we worked together most of the week. Then I was out on my own with many phone calls to her for help on what to do. I spent a lot of time lost (with 3 GPS) until I figured out my TomTom GPS system works better in Illinois than Wisconsin. Who knew?

Now I call Penny just because I like her and to kind of review what is happening with work (and our lives). This job is kind of isolating in that you never meet most of your peers and I have not met the new boss. I spend my days in stores where I am gradually getting to know the store personnel but I call on them every two weeks so that takes time.

There are so many products to learn! We cover Abbot and Novatis Labs, MARS candy and Pet Food, SC Johnson, Smuckers (which includes Folgers, Dunkin' Donut Coffees, Hungry Jack, Jif and Pillsbury), Seventh Generation (a biodegradable cleaning, diaper, and personal care line)  and Unilever (which is a huge number of products from Dove to Vaseline to Bryers Ice Cream). Most of that is good and I am much happier working in Targets than in grocery stores.

The Lowes stores are still harder. I only have three once a month so I still don't feel like I know what I am doing. The clients are different too: Rubbermaid, Formica and Roxul (an insulation brand). I am sure in time I will be ok there too but now I am fumbling. The boss they fired was the Lowes expert (brilliant to fire him huh?)

My territory keeps changing every month so far and now I don't get to stay in North Aurora anymore. LOL At first finding it was the problem but it is the nicer of the two hotels with a small kitchenette. Now I am down to just a day or two in Illinois every two weeks (Instead of alternating a week here and a week there) but they cut our travel reimbursements. Sigh . . . I was just starting to catch up a little money-wise so that really hurts. I am also doing less total driving miles.

The job is merchandising from couponing to replenishing displays, reporting, and product rotation. I pull out of dates and communicate with the store management on my findings. Then I electronically transmit my data. I do my own routing so I have flexibility as long as the work is completed each cycle. (We don't use months but use 4 and 5 week cycles.)
